Jumping Squats
  • 1. What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is defined as “constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity.” In simple terms, that means we train the way the body was meant to move—lifting, jumping, squatting, running, carrying, and more—with the goal of building strength, endurance, and confidence that carries into everyday life. At CrossFit Leduc, our programming is carefully designed to include a balance of heavy lifting, conditioning, skill work, gymnastics, Olympic lifting, strongman, and accessory movements. While the workouts change daily to keep things fresh and challenge different energy systems, constantly varied does not mean random—there’s always intention and progression behind what we do. The real magic of CrossFit, though, is the community. You’ll be surrounded by coaches who care and a group of people who’ll cheer you on every step of the way—whether it’s your first class or your hundredth.
  • 2. Do I need to be in shape before starting CrossFit?
Absolutely not. This is one of the biggest misconceptions about CrossFit—and one we love to clear up. CrossFit is for everyone, no matter your current fitness level. We have athletes from 5 to 85 in our facility every day with all ranges of backgrounds and abilities. Every workout can be scaled or modified to meet you where you’re at, whether you’re brand new to exercise, returning after a break, or already active but looking for something more effective and engaging. Our coaches are here to guide you, offer personalized options, and make sure you feel confident and supported from day one. You don’t get fit to start CrossFit—you get fit by doing CrossFit.
  • 3. What can I expect in my first class at CrossFit Leduc?
Your first class is all about getting comfortable, having fun, and moving in a way that feels good for you. We ask that you arrive 10-15 minutes before class starts. We’ll start with a friendly welcome and a walk-through of the space. One of our coaches will chat with you about your experience, goals, and any injuries or concerns so we can make sure you’re set up for success. From there, the class typically includes a warm-up, some skill or strength work, and a workout (we call it a “WOD”—Workout of the Day) that’s scaled to your ability. You’ll never be left to figure things out on your own—our coaches are there every step of the way to demonstrate movements, offer modifications, and keep an eye on technique. Expect lots of encouragement, high fives, and a supportive crew cheering you on!
  • 4. Can I try a class before I sign up?
Yes! We highly encourage it. We offer three free trial classes so you can get a real feel for our gym, coaching style, and community before making any decisions. It’s a no-pressure way to see if CrossFit Leduc is a good fit for you. And if you’d rather dip your toes in first, come check out one of our Saturday community workouts—they're always free, open to all fitness levels, and a great way to experience the energy and vibe of our gym in a fun group setting. Just shoot us a message to let us know you’re coming, or drop in and say hi. We’re excited to meet you!
  • 5. Is CrossFit safe for beginners or people with injuries?
Yes—when coached properly, CrossFit is not only safe, but one of the most effective ways to build strength, mobility, and confidence. At CrossFit Leduc, safety is our top priority. Our coaches are experienced in working with a wide range of abilities and injuries, and every workout can be scaled or modified to meet your unique needs. Whether you’re managing a past injury, recovering postpartum, or just getting back into movement, we’ve got you. Our coaching philosophy is built on a solid foundation: Mechanics → Consistency → Intensity. That means we focus first on how you move—making sure you’re performing exercises with proper technique and full range of motion. From there, we build consistency—your first rep looks like your tenth rep. Only after that do we layer on intensity, whether that’s more weight, speed, or complexity. It’s not about pushing through pain—it’s about moving well, building confidence, and making progress at your own pace.
  • 6. How is CrossFit different from a regular gym?
At a regular gym, you’re often left to figure things out on your own—what to do, how to do it, and how to stay motivated. At CrossFit Leduc, every class is coach-led, programmed for you, and done in a group setting that brings energy, accountability, and support. Each day’s workout includes a warm-up, skill or strength work, and a WOD (Workout of the Day). You just show up—we guide you through it. All workouts can be adjusted to your level, whether you're just starting out or looking to take things up a notch. What makes CrossFit truly different is that it’s measurable and repeatable. We track our workouts, lifts, and benchmarks so you can see your progress over time—whether that’s lifting more weight, moving faster, or mastering a new skill. It’s an empowering way to train because you know you’re getting better. We also incorporate a balanced mix of strength training, conditioning, gymnastics, Olympic lifting, and accessory work across the week—designed to help you become strong, capable, and confident in all areas of fitness. And the best part? You’ll be doing it all alongside a supportive community that celebrates every win, big or small.
  • 7. What types of workouts do you do at CrossFit Leduc?
Our workouts are varied to keep things fun, challenging, and well-rounded. At CrossFit Leduc, you'll experience a mix of: Heavy lifting (think squats, deadlifts, and press variations) Conditioning (for building endurance through running, rowing, or cycling) Gymnastics (handstands, pull-ups, and bodyweight movements) Olympic lifting (like clean and jerk or snatch) Strongman (think sled pushes, tire flips, and farmers’ carries) Accessory movements (to build strength and mobility in key areas) Each workout is designed to improve your fitness across all areas of movement and performance, and it’s always tailored to your level. Expect to be challenged in a way that pushes you to grow and progress.
  • 8. How often should I attend classes each week?
How often you attend depends on your goals and current fitness level, but we generally recommend starting with 3–4 classes per week. This gives you a great balance of working on strength, conditioning, and skill development without overloading your body. If you're new to CrossFit or fitness in general, feel free to start with 2–3 classes per week and gradually build up as your body adapts. Our coaches can help guide you on what works best based on your progress and goals. It’s important to take rest days, especially in the beginning, so your body has time to recover, adapt, and accommodate the changes you're making. Consistency is key to seeing improvement—so find a rhythm that works for you and stick with it!
  • 9. What do I need to bring to class?
For your first class, be on time, and just bring a positive attitude and comfortable workout clothes! We’ll provide the rest. Here’s a quick list of what you may want to bring: Clean, supportive shoes (CrossFit-specific shoes are great, but any athletic shoe works) Water bottle (hydration is key!) Personal gear (like a jump rope or wrist wraps) if you have them, but we’ve got everything you’ll need at the gym A great mindset (trust us, this one’s important!) And don’t worry—if you forget something, we’ve got you covered. Our goal is to make sure you feel comfortable and ready to give it your best.
  • 10. What if I can't do something listed in the workout?
No problem at all! One of the key principles of CrossFit is scalability—meaning that every workout can be adjusted to fit your ability, regardless of what’s on the whiteboard. If there’s a movement or exercise you’re not able to do yet, our coaches will work with you to find an alternative or modification that’s just as effective but safer and more accessible. This might mean using lighter weights, performing a simpler version of a movement, or trying a different exercise altogether. The goal is to keep you progressing, challenge you appropriately, and make sure you feel successful, no matter where you're starting from. We’ll never ask you to do something you’re not ready for!
